I am taking time to view more portfolios (so to speak) on instagram or websites via the Villain Arts Convention website. This is the third post on selections I have made based on any given days unnamed criteria. In the third round I have been strangely eliminating many feeds and/or artists even when they are super talented. I have added a few more to this slowly growing favorites list one who strictly does artwork (email him for “tattoo privilege”). I spent a few separate days on this list. This time I was slightly scared or disturbed, but I was able to get through them all. The last couple of times I didn’t last long. Before that I did the whole Houston/Dallas in a a couple of long nights, so I think it had to do with my eye health and other things on my mind. It would be awesome to go to Louisiana again for the second time in my life and get September’s ‘Tattoo of the Month” done there. It would have to be a small meaningful one because of travel and time off. I guess that is what I was looking for and some of those artists from Houston and Dallas will be there as well.
Allen Spurlock – I am impressed by the interpretation or transference of ‘gazes’. In other words how the eyes look out from the palette of skin. He also posted an original painting in which was on eBay auction that is amazing in it’s balance of borderline emotional overflow. Like I should feel this way about this image…but not quite in several directions. Owner of t.h.e.c.h.a.p.e.l. (318)381-6189
David Gellner – lots of posted original artwork. Detailed/elaborate geometric designs that are also complex things or creatures. Very meticulous and mathematical with everything, it looks like. Despite this description, they are no picnics. I like the lettering I see for a Ckwal name tattoo, but I’m not sure as Ckwal himself, if it make sense to ‘fan’ myself like that, even if some of the work I do is out of mind and spiritually malleable. Sarah Twiggy – some simple and colorful &/or outline based work that doesn’t need anymore. I don’t know where these ideas come from, but there are quite a few that stand out. I’d probably ask for a vegetable, cow or dragon variation depending on how much I had to spend. Iron Crown Tattoo 831-373-4766. Says she has gmail, but it is missing the address.
We Are All Corrupted (Kyle Spain) – “Dark & Surreal Art”, these are the kind of designs that you might want one tattoo of somewhere and you can’t really find it anywhere. You might see tons of similar stuff all over the place, but it’s usually for some really popular or cult underground franchise thing that everyone will say they know what it is, so you keep looking and never find it. Some are based off established characters, some fully original. Send message via Etsy shop or try talking @ him on instagram.
Disclaimer/warning: As always have caution on instagram with body art. Offensive images or designs and/or nudity possible Contacting or showing up at the convention expecting to work with any artist without a direct contact appointment is not guaranteed. Choosing an artist or a specific design does not necessarily mean the artist will deliver so-called work unless agreed upon and in that negotiation must realize it is an art and mistakes or variations are possible. Dealing with tattoo artists, you may also confront strong egos or spirits and confronting or not confronting will effect the final result. Good luck.
